Proxy, node and subscription: the basic route

A client, a node and a subscription are different parts of one route. Knowing the difference makes setup and troubleshooting much easier.

The four building blocks

The client reads configuration, establishes connections and applies routing rules. Installing one does not give you a network service by itself.

A node is the server that forwards traffic. Region, route quality, capacity and load all affect the result.

A subscription URL delivers node configurations to a client. Treat it like a credential and never post it publicly.

A provider operates nodes, subscriptions and user support. You pay for maintained infrastructure rather than the client application.

A provider is easier for multiple devices and quick setup. A VPS offers more control but requires system updates, monitoring and troubleshooting.
